Alicia Garcia grew up in Orangevale, CA and now lives in Lehi, UT. She began taking piano lessons at age ten and harp lessons at age twelve. Alicia studied the harp with Aileen Kelley until she was eighteen, and then went on to major in Music at Brigham Young University-Idaho under the tutelage of Shari Pack. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music with an emphasis in harp from BYU - Idaho in 2011. She then moved to Rigby, ID where she taught lessons in her home studio for 6 years. She recently moved to Lehi, UT and is starting to teach in her home studio again.
Alicia has spent several years studying music pedagogy, and determining the best way to teach the difficult technique of the harp while still learning to enjoy and feel the emotions of the music. She believes that the most important part of learning to play any instrument is learning to let the music speak to you. Only then will you be a true musician. This can happen at any stage in your student career and it is important to continually be developing that musicality. Each student learns differently, and Alicia strives to adapt her teaching in order to fit their learning modality. No matter what type of learner the student is, they can learn to play music and will become competent musicians if they put the hard work and dedication needed to succeed.
